A Mogul's Network

“Your network is your net worth”

I know it’s been a minute since I’ve posted but I haven’t forgotten about y’all.

I’m in the middle of 4 major projects plus I just started another one which you’ll find out about in a bit. For now all I can say is that I’m very excited to be a part of this project.

I’m lucky enough to enjoy most of what I do, but this project is something that I’m 112% genuinely interested in and devoted to.

With that being said; I’m always interested in connecting with other professionals in the business and building upon those relationships. You never know how we may be able to help one another and what may come from it.

It doesn’t matter if you work in music, fashion, film, new media, journalism, sports, technology, if you’re a student… anything. Just holler at me.

And don’t worry if you think you have nothing to offer and don’t think you need to make yourself sound like you’re Diddy in your message in order to get noticed.

Just drop me a few lines and say hi.

So, if you’re a young professional who’s always on their hustle for bigger things and are always making moves, feel free to hit me up at makingthemogul@gmail.com and introduce yourself.

Let’s build!

2008 Stylus DJ Awards – The MTL Party

2008 Stylus DJ Awards

The Justo Mixtape Awards went down about 2 weeks back and now, we have another event for the DJs coming up – the Stylus DJ Awards. (Shoutout to my bwoy DJ Hotsauce for winning Best International DJ for the second year in a row at the Justos!)

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Stylus DJ Awards, it’s an event held every year to acknowledge the urban DJs throughout Canada.

That’s right – I said Canada.

Some people refer to it the Canadian version of the Justos, but I’ve never been to the Justos, so I can’t really tell you what the similarities or differences between the two may be.

This year’s awards are going down in Toronto at the end of this month, but I reached through to the Montreal Nominees Party this past Friday, to see what was going down and enjoy the great company of some of the city’s best DJs. Congratulations to DJ Quest for winning the Fan Choice Award for the Montreal DJ of the Year!

Also, big shoutouts to the other nominees who are all, undoubtedly, putting in an active effort to push the MTL scene: Don SmoothKwite SaneLittle ThunderSkratch Bastid and Team Canada.

Below are a few pics from the event for your viewing pleasure. (Yes, that’s me in my b-boy stance in one of the pics.)

Thanks to Jesse Walker for the pics.

Unreleased MC Hammer/Death Row Album

MC Hammer - Too Tight album cover (Death Row Records)

I wasn’t going to post anything today, but I’ve got to share this with you guys.

My bwoy Perry from Good Friday Ent just sent me the unreleased album MC Hammer did with Death Row, titled “2Tight”.

I never thought I’d hear this. The album has a bunch of features too; including Kurupt, Luniz, Spice 1 and… 2pac!

Check out the track with Pac and download the album below.

I wonder what would’ve happened had this been released.

Enjoy!

Kardinal Offishall ft. Akon – Dangerous (Video)

When I spoke with Bu the other day, he mentioned an upcoming video for Kardi‘s new single, “Dangerous” featuring Akon.

Well, here it is!

The video just dropped and it looks dope! I gotta give it up to Kardi, he’s been doing his thing for a minute and has been breaking barriers for Canadian artists for a long time now. It’s a real good look to see him with a team that can do him justice and hopefully bring him the attention that he deserves.

The video is packed with guest appearances. From first glance I notice DJ Khaled, Ray L, Solitair, Clinton Sparks, DJ Benny D, Bu, Supa Dups, Lindo P, DJ DOC, a noticeable placement by Married To The Mob and of course the gorgeous leading lady, who we’ll just call “Maxine” for now.

It’s 3am so I might be missing a few people, but if you notice someone else in the video, leave a comment below and I’ll add them in.

Enjoy!

Monday Music – Screw Genres

Okay, so it’s Monday now, which means it’s the beginning of the week for most people. I work throughout the weekends however, so the only difference to me is that there will be a few more phone calls and emails today.

Anyways, I’m finishing up a project for a major client of mine, so I’m going to be pretty tied up with that today; but I didn’t want to leave you high and dry without a fresh post, so I decided I’d share some music with you.

I’m not sure if many of you know this, but when it comes to music – I listen to many different genres. The “urban” genres are definitely my core preference, but I still listen to anything that sounds good – regardless of what radio format the song is serviced to. But even when it comes to urban, most people assume I’m a strict rap/hip-hop head.

Truth be told, I grew up listening to R&B, Dancehall and Soca just as much as I did listening to Rap. Actually, I’m just as much, if not more, of an R&B cat than I am a hip-hop head. Whenever I find the state of music to be a little stale, I can always find an R&B song to keep my ears and mind satisfied.

By the way, I really don’t like using genres to classify music. I could care less about what radio format a song is serviced to or what clothing brands or lifestyle is associated to it. To me, good music is good music.

I mention genres mainly for the simplicity of living a sane life. I’m not going to be that guy who stops you 5 times during a sentence and asks you to clarify what you mean when you say certain words. I hate that guy. That guy doesn’t live life; he argues with it.

Anyways, I really don’t know where I’m going with this. The whole purpose of this post was just to share 2 songs with you that have been on repeat on my player for the past week…… fine – 3 weeks; but you see what I’m saying? (I know they’re not necessarily “new” new, but I guarantee they’re new to most of you)

The first one’s a little more mid-tempo, while the second one is a little slower; but they’re both real serious joints in my opinion. Check them out and let me know what you think.

EDIT: I switched the order of the songs since it’s easier to go from slow-tempo up, as opposed to the opposite. Thanks to Rachel for pointing it out.
