Rest In Peace Shakir Stewart

Welcome to MakingTheMogul.com. It looks like you're new here. Please make sure to subscribe to my RSS feed and join me on Twitter. Thanks for visiting!

Today marks a truly unfortunate day, as Shakir Stewart has passed away.

Just earlier this year, Shakir was named Executive Vice President of Def Jam Recordings. Prior to his promotion, he served as Senior VP of A&R at Def Jam since September 2006 and as VP of A&R the two years prior.

Shakir passed away earlier today as the result of a suicide. More details are available at the moment, however given the unfortunate nature of this situation, I choose to leave it at that and simply extend my prayers to his family, friends, colleagues and all those who have had the privilege of being around him.

The music business lost a great man.

Rest In Peace.

Off Topic: Montrealers Prank Call Sarah Palin

Montreal's The Justiciers Masqués (Masked Avengers), Marc-Antoine Audette and Sébastien Trudel prank call Sarah Palin

This is an off-topic blog post, but I gotta show some hometown love to my city and post this audio from The Masked Avengers, a comedic Montreal radio duo that is notorious for their prank calls.

Earlier today, they pulled off another major prank on none other than Sarah Palin.

Pretending to be French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, they threw a few things her way, like referring to the Canadian Prime Minister by the wrong name and congratulating her on her feature movie, “Who’s Nalin’ Palin” by adult entertainment empire, Hustler.

Needless to say, she didn’t catch on.

Below is the official press release (yes.. there is a press release for a prank call) as well as the audio of the prank:

Hip-Hop At The Top (Alltop)

One of my favourite sites online, Alltop.com, is known as a digital magazine rack for nearly any topic you can think of.

That’s the quickest way of explaining what it is, but for a more detailed explanation, read this post I wrote a while ago, or just watch this video:

50 Cent & MTV Are Scared Of Me

Well, no. Not really.

If you recall, a few months ago I posted about 50 Cent’s upcoming TV show, “Mogul In The Making”. Seeing that my blog is called Making The Mogul, it kinda… caught me off guard (read: got me vexed).

I later posted about my intentions behind launching this blog and naming it Making The Mogul, and figured I’ll just see how it goes and if the similarity in names actually helps my site traffic.

It did for a while, especially during the casting calls, and my blog stayed at the top of any Google searches for “mogul in the making” and other varieties searching for the show. That was a welcome side-effect, but it got extremely annoying when my inbox would be continuously FLOODED with requests to be on the show (which confused the hell outta me before I even knew about the show).

Well, I just peeped the new trailer for 50’s show on Miss Info’s blog, and it seems like they changed the name from Mogul In The Making to The Money & The Power.

Looks like SOMEONE thought twice after peeping this site right here lol.

Unlike previously rumored, the grand prize is not a scholarship, but rather a $100,000 investment towards the business idea of the winner. Makes more sense.

Here’s the trailer for 50 Cent’s upcoming reality show with MTV, “The Money & The Power”.

I’m looking forward to the show.

Alltop.com Makes My Life Easier

Living in the Information Age is no easy task.

There is so much information out there, and with how resourceful sites like Google and Wikipedia are, it’s not about what you know; it’s about how fast you can get to know it.

You simply can’t afford to not know what’s going on. Being informed is having power; having access.

Forget about waiting for opportunity to knock on your door. When you have the right information, you have the master key to open any door you want.

That’s why it’s vital to stay informed of what’s going on and having easy access to that information.

My father is the type who wakes up early, grabs the morning paper, and reads the entire thing front to back; regardless of whether it’s of interest to him or not.

That’s a great trait, but that’s not me.

I’ll still read the world news and current events, but overall, I’m the type who wants to know about certain topics of interest and wants to see a whole lot of it laid out in front of me.

Subscribing to RSS feeds are usually pretty good for that, but the main problem I have with that is finding enough sites whose feeds I can subscribe to, so that I can get my fix.

And what if I don’t have enough time to filter through the entire net for new ones? I don’t want to miss out on anything.

Luckily, I keep my ear tuned into the tech world and heard about a site called Alltop.com that answers that problem.

Alltop is a site that collects all the top stories from all the top sites on the net and groups them together into organized categories. But it’s not just the top sites that are displayed. They also feature other sites that show promise and would be of interest to people who need more than they find on the better known sites.

Think of it like Amazon’s “If You Like This, You Might Like…” feature.

So, for example; if you’re looking for tips and articles to help you grow your blog, you’d go to blogging.alltop.com;or if you’re into new technology and gadgets, you’d go to gadgets.alltop.com.

Each of the categories or “alltopics” have a full and quick overview of all the recent headlines from the top sites in each category, plus a few promising upcomers.

I’ve been using the site since it first launched and have found it to be a really useful tool.

Like I said, I’m the kind of guy who wants a laid out summary of everything that’s going on and when I see something that catches my interest, I look more into it. That’s why I was pleased to find out about Alltop a few months back; it suits me perfectly.

Now if I can just find an assistant/intern who can offer me the same kind of service with work projects.

I’d highly recommend checking out Alltop.com and browsing through the categories to find what piques your interest. I have a couple of them bookmarked for daily reads.

As a matter of fact, MakingTheMogul.com was added to music.alltop.com and smallbusiness.alltop.com last night

Thanks Guy & Neenz!
