I usually stray away from interviews because I’m most often asked to divulge information about artists and labels I’m working with or they ask for specific details about projects I’m involved with.
I obviously can’t discuss that type of information, but when Cyber PR Urban reached out to me about discussing social media and how artists today can use social networks to their benefit, I happily agreed.
Okay, so it’s Monday now, which means it’s the beginning of the week for most people. I work throughout the weekends however, so the only difference to me is that there will be a few more phone calls and emails today.
Anyways, I’m finishing up a project for a major client of mine, so I’m going to be pretty tied up with that today; but I didn’t want to leave you high and dry without a fresh post, so I decided I’d share some music with you.
I’m not sure if many of you know this, but when it comes to music - I listen to many different genres. The “urban” genres are definitely my core preference, but I still listen to anything that sounds good - regardless of what radio format the song is serviced to. But even when it comes to urban, most people assume I’m a strict rap/hip-hop head.
Truth be told, I grew up listening to R&B, Dancehall and Soca just as much as I did listening to Rap. Actually, I’m just as much, if not more, of an R&B cat than I am a hip-hop head. Whenever I find the state of music to be a little stale, I can always find an R&B song to keep my ears and mind satisfied.
By the way, I really don’t like using genres to classify music. I could care less about what radio format a song is serviced to or what clothing brands or lifestyle is associated to it. To me, good music is good music.
I mention genres mainly for the simplicity of living a sane life. I’m not going to be that guy who stops you 5 times during a sentence and asks you to clarify what you mean when you say certain words. I hate that guy. That guy doesn’t live life; he argues with it.
Anyways, I really don’t know where I’m going with this. The whole purpose of this post was just to share 2 songs with you that have been on repeat on my player for the past week…… fine - 3 weeks; but you see what I’m saying? (I know they’re not necessarily “new” new, but I guarantee they’re new to most of you)
The first one’s a little more mid-tempo, while the second one is a little slower; but they’re both real serious joints in my opinion. Check them out and let me know what you think.
EDIT: I switched the order of the songs since it’s easier to go from slow-tempo up, as opposed to the opposite. Thanks to Rachel for pointing it out.
This blog is about my personal journey in the music business. I'm not really a blogger.. I'm just continuing my everyday grind and sharing my journey with you. From time to time, I'll also feature interviews with key decision makers, tastemakers and other young professionals doing their thing. Feel free to drop me a line or leave your comments.
